On Wednesday, police were notified of an incident in Roullingen, northern Luxembourg. An unknown male posed as a courier several days earlier, and pretended to deliver a parcel to a woman living on Reimerwee. He told the victim she needed to pay a small sum in order to release the parcel, requiring her bank card. When processing the transaction, the scammer swapped the card for a foreign one and made off with the woman's bank card. Later, the stolen card was used to withdraw cash from a cash machine in Wiltz.
Authorities seized the parcel delivered by the scammer and launched an investigation into the incident.
Police have warned the public against such scams and called upon people to exercise caution in the event of an unusual delivery.
