On 13 April a member of the customs canine unit found traces of cannabis on a person visiting the Schrassig prison facilities. It transpired the visitor had brought the drugs into the building in an attempt to smuggle them to an inmate. The cannabis was detected by a sniffer dog belonging to the customs administrations anti-drugs inspectorate, who were carrying out checks at the prison.

The prison administration confirmed that the perpetrator had been handed over the police. Any visitors to the prison must undergo security checks before and after their visit. Illegal infractions, such as the smuggling of banned items and drugs, would be reported to police immediately.

The prison administration’s dog handlers are currently undergoing training with the customs administration until September 2022 in order to combat the presence of narcotics in Luxembourg’s prisons.
