Snowfall and temperatures below zero have led to a rather busy morning for the country's emergency services.

With Luxembourg placed on yellow alert, Meteolux already warned that motorists might face less than ideal traffic conditions on Friday.

Serious accident near Sandweiler

On Friday morning, a bus and a lorry collided between Contern and the Sandweiler roundabout on the CR234. The road has been completely closed to traffic.

Three ambulances and the first responder (Samu) are on the scene to treat five injured people. One of them could be more seriously injured than the others.

The police recommend avoiding the area.

Major traffic jam on the A1

A lorry is stopped on the service lane of the A1 between the Howald tunnel and the Gasperich intersection, in the direction of Luxembourg City. The right lane is closed. The accident has led to a major traffic jam, extending from Kirchberg towards the south of Luxembourg.

Several other accidents reported

  • Police report three accidents on route de Longwy between Niederkorn and Lasauvage.
  • Buses are blocked on the N31 at the intersection of route d’Esch and rue de Rumelange in the ‘Keeler Potto’ area. The area is to be avoided.
  • A car has rolled over on the N8 between Kreuzerbuch and Gäichel.
