In a joint press release published on Wednesday morning, two student councils and two teachers' unions demanded uniform and clear criteria for the division of final year classes into A/B groups. The press release was signed by the National Conference of Luxembourg Secondary School Students (CNEL), the National Union of Luxembourg Students (UNEL), as well as the Association of Secondary School Teachers (APESS) and the Association for Education and Science (SEW).
As all final year students have to write the same exam, equal opportunity could only be guaranteed if the same criteria applied to all students, the associations argued. In addition, the same strategy would have to be applied throughout the country when it came to the abridged curricula of final year students.
The associations also demand more transparency and better communication by the Ministry of Education, stressing that measures that affect students directly must be discussed in the responsible Council of Education. In this context, the associations call for a meeting of all of the affected parties within the education system.
