The Grand Ducal police conducted traffic checks in northern Luxembourg on Saturday night, targeting alcohol infractions in particular.

Officers were stationed in Tandel, Moestroff and Gilsdorf in order to monitor traffic.

In total, 172 motorists were pulled over to perform breathalyser tests, some without any prior signs of intoxication.

In four cases, the drivers tested positive but escaped with a warning. However, two people were so far over the alcohol limit that their licence was confiscated on the spot. Other drivers were fined for driving under the influence of drugs, while one individual was fined €250 for using their mobile phone at the wheel.

Infractions elsewhere

In Rodange a motorist was spotted weaving across the road at around 3.30am on Sunday. He went on to ignore a stop sign and failed to use his indicators. Police pulled the vehicle over and checked the driver, who refused to cooperate and became aggressive towards officers. He subsequently had his licence taken away following a positive breathalyser test.

At around 7am on Sunday morning, police received reports of a person behaving aggressively at the Centre Hospitalier Emile Mayrisch in Esch-sur-Alzettte. Officers arrived at the scene, where they found the person shouting loudly in the hospital waiting room. It was evident that the individual was highly intoxicated, and officers initially succeeded in calming them down and convincing them to leave the premises. But the person returned after a short time and resumed the disruptive behaviour, leaving the police no choice but take them into custody.
