The unemployment rate has risen to 6.4%, in spite of the increase in job vacancies.
At the end of June 2026, the National Employment Agency (ADEM) recorded 19,619 resident job seekers available for work, an increase of 1,733 people compared to the previous year. This represents a 9.7% rise over twelve months, affecting all categories, with a particularly marked increase among the most highly qualified (+19.1%) and those aged 30–44 (+12.8%).
The professions most affected by this increase are those in secretarial and support roles, IT, accounting and management, as well as the banking sector. The unemployment rate now stands at 6.4%, as calculated by STATEC and adjusted for seasonal variations,
New registrations of resident jobseekers are also increasing: 2,478 people registered in June, up 3% compared to June 2025. At the end of the month, 9,904 residents were receiving full unemployment benefits, while 1,573 people were in vocational retraining and receiving a waiting allowance or a vocational waiting allowance.
Despite rising unemployment, employers are reporting more job vacancies. In June 2026, ADEM registered 3,167 job offers, 7.2% more than the previous year. The total number of available positions reached 7,081 (+3.1%). The most significant increases were in design and engineering roles in construction, industrial cleaning, social and sociocultural work, and paramedical care.
