The Tavares family lost their livelihood after a fire destroyed a café in Luxembourg City’s Bonnevoie district last week. After initially finding shelter at a relative’s place, the four people who lived above the café requested assistance from the municipality of Luxembourg City, which they did not receive due to administrative complications.

The Luxembourg City fraction of the Left has now addressed the situation in a press release, arguing that family Tavares does have a right to housing support from the municipality. The statement notes that there is no legal basis to refuse housing support for not having been requested right after the event.

Also, the City has been renting a hotel for refugees from Ukraine since April, the majority of which is unused at the moment. The Left thus refutes the argument that there are no options at the municipality’s disposal.

The party further believes that the municipality should offer psychological support to family Tavares.
