Emergency services responded to three separate house fires in Ettelbruck, Herborn, and Differdange from Tuesday evening into Wednesday, with one fatality confirmed in Ettelbruck.

Firefighters from the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) were called out to three residential fires across Luxembourg on Tuesday evening and into the early hours of Wednesday. In one of the incidents, a person lost their life despite the intervention of emergency teams.

The first fire broke out shortly after 7pm in Herborn, on Al Schmedt street. Fire crews from the Consdorf, Manternach, Mertert, Osweiler, and Echternach stations were dispatched to the scene to bring the flames under control.

At 2.18am, a second fire was reported at a house on Rue Guillaume in Ettelbruck. A significant emergency response was mobilised, including firefighters from the Nordstad, Colmar, Ingeldorf, Mersch, Bissen, and Junglinster fire stations. Support was also provided by a SAMU emergency medical unit from the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg (CHL), as well as the CGDIS operational technology support group (GATO) and the operations management centre (CGO).

According to the CGDIS, a bedridden resident was rescued from the burning building using breathing apparatus, but sadly succumbed to injuries despite being attended to by emergency medical staff. Three other individuals received medical attention at the scene. A psychological support team was also present to assist witnesses and acquaintances. The operation continued into Wednesday morning, involving around 50 firefighters. Authorities also issued an emergency warning text to Ettelbruck residents.

Shortly before 3am, another house fire broke out, this time in the Avenue Charlotte area of Differdange. Here too, residents received a warning text about the ongoing incident.
