As people seek to flee the heat in favour of cool indoor places, RTL asked the Luxembourg City Tourist Office if they had noticed an increase in people visiting the Casemates caves above the Pétrusse valley.
Demand is certainly higher than usual, said Marketing, Communication & Press officer Mady Lutgen, although the caves usually attract more visitors around National Day.
Around 900 people visit the Casemates at the Bock outcrop every day, rising to 1,740 on weekends or public holidays. The Pétrusse Casemates usually have around 600 visitors in the week. The Pétrusse caves are particularly cool at the moment, with temperatures of around 15 degrees Celsius. The Bock caves are around 24-29 degrees.
As demand is high at the moment, visitors are advised to book in advance on www.luxembourg-city.com or at the Tourist Office on Place Guillaume II. Tickets can also be purchased at the entrance for spontaneous visits.
