As reported by the Dutch public broadcaster NOS, the boy sustained severe injuries from fireworks and was resuscitated by emergency services, but tragically did not survive. He was reported to be from Rotterdam.

The exact cause of the incident remains unclear. Eyewitnesses informed local media that the boy was handling illegal, large fireworks. A Cobra firework is believed to have exploded prematurely, leading to fatal injuries. Several Dutch cities, including Rotterdam, have imposed a firework ban this year.

This tragic event in Rotterdam follows another serious accident earlier in the day in Zeeland, where a 13-year-old boy was critically injured by a Cobra-6 firework, reportedly losing part of his hand, according to Omroep Zeeland.
