Jana Berghman, a spokesperson for Belgian police, told AFP that the explosive had allegedly been found during a garden clean-up. "We asked them to put the small bucket on the floor and leave the premises, and then we evacuated several rooms near reception", she explained.

A bomb disposal team was quickly called on-site and managed to disarm the explosive without it causing any damage.

"We have no idea how it ended up there", Berghman said.

Following the incident, police urged the public to leave explosives alone if found and to alert emergency services.
