A group of five people travelling by car along the K155 road near Lützkampen, just across the border from Weiswampach, noticed a motorcycle lying in the forest on Sunday morning at around 9am. After stopping to investigate, the group found an injured man just a few metres from the vehicle.
The motorcyclist, who was conscious, told police that he had crashed his bike the previous day, on Saturday around 2pm. This means he spent approximately 19 hours alone, injured, and without assistance in the forest before finally being discovered.
Initial indications suggest the man lost control while negotiating a right-hand bend, veered off the left side of the road, and was thrown into the wooded area beside the road. He told police that several vehicles had driven past while he was stranded, but since the accident site was on a slope, he was difficult to spot from the road. It was only by chance that one of the group noticed the motorcycle, ultimately leading to his rescue.
After receiving first aid at the scene, the injured man was airlifted to hospital by rescue helicopter. He is no longer in a life-threatening condition. Police say the precise circumstances of the accident are still under investigation.
