
On Sunday, the Federal Police in Trier reported that a sixteen-year-old girl was the victim of a sexual assault while travelling on a regional train near Trier. The incident occurred at around 10.20am on Saturday, 20 July, as the train was approaching Trier station. Police allege that a sixty-four-year-old man, who resides in the Eifel region, forcibly held the girl’s hand, pulled her into his embrace, and touched both her chest and her hair against her will.
Witnesses who noticed the situation intervened to assist the victim. The suspected perpetrator subsequently left the scene and made his way towards the bus station, where Federal Police officers apprehended him. He was later released from police custody, but an investigation for sexual assault has been opened against him.
