A small plane crashed onto the roof of a house in Ganderkesee, in Lower Saxony's Oldenburg district on Saturday morning. Police announced that one person had died in the accident and that another remained unaccounted for.

The aircraft is reported to have lost altitude "for reasons that are still unknown" before crashing into the building. Further investigations are under way.

For safety reasons, the electricity supply around the scene was cut off. Residents in the area were able to take shelter in a nearby facility, where they were cared for and supported.
