July is a time of great joy for the Slovenian language teacher at the European School Luxembourg II, as it brings news of the extraordinary achievements of Slovenian graduates. For a small language section within a school of around 1,750 secondary students, these achievements carry particular significance.
Ana Marija Kukovec, this year’s valedictorian, an accomplished athlete, and a dynamic and inspiring young woman with a remarkable ability to bring people together, has once again placed the Slovenian community among the school’s highest achievers. She achieved an outstanding overall average of 95.29, graduating first among 252 successful candidates.
Another exceptional Slovenian student, Nace Komac, earned the title of valedictorian in 2023. He was also a classmate of Eva Marija, who represented Luxembourg at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, highlighting the diverse talents emerging from the Slovenian community at the European School.
Behind these achievements stands the wider Slovenian community in Luxembourg, where families work together to preserve the Slovenian language, culture, and traditions while encouraging young people to pursue excellence in education, sport, and music.
