SCHOOL STABBING – A 14-year-old schoolgirl has been stabbed and injured at a secondary school in Luxembourg City. The attack took place in the shared canteen of the Lycée Michel Lucius in Limpertsberg yesterday afternoon, following an argument between two female students. The victim was taken to hospital, while the suspected 14-year-old attacker fled before being arrested by police. The suspect is currently being held in Schrassig prison under orders from a juvenile judge.

DEFENCE CONFERENCE – Luxembourg’s Defence Minister Yuriko Backes and her Belgian counterpart are among the speakers at a major European satellite communications conference in Luxembourg today, with EU Defence Commissioner Andrius Kubilius also set to address delegates on secure connectivity and European defence.

MURDER SENTENCE – A 66-year-old Luxembourg national, who murdered his wife and concealed her body in a forest before falsely reporting her missing, has been sentenced to life in prison, with the presiding judge citing mitigating circumstances in the ruling.

CITY BIKE LANES – Luxembourg City has unveiled plans to expand its cycling and pedestrian network over the next two years, with new bike lanes and the removal of parking spaces in several neighbourhoods. The city hopes the measures will raise the share of journeys made by bicycle to 18%.

World

US-IRAN TALKS – US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are set for a third round of nuclear talks with Iran, mediated by Oman. Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi is set to lead Iran’s delegation. President Trump has warned of possible military strikes if no progress is made within two weeks.

UKRAINE PEACE TALKS – Steve Witkoff is also set to meet Ukraine’s lead negotiator Rumen Umerov today, with President Zelensky saying the talks are laying the groundwork for three-way peace negotiations with Moscow, potentially as early as next month.

CUBA SHOOTING – Cuban soldiers have shot dead four people on a US-registered motorboat off the Cuban coast, injuring and detaining six others. Havana claims those on board fired first and says weapons and Molotov cocktails were found on the vessel. All those on board were Cuban nationals living in the United States, and the survivors now face terrorism charges. Washington says it is still gathering information.

EPSTEIN FILES CLINTONSHillary Clinton is testifying before a House committee today as part of its investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, with former President Bill Clinton due to follow tomorrow.

FOOTBALL – Real Madrid, PSG, Galatasaray, and Atalanta have all secured their places in the Champions League last 16. Madrid beat Benfica 2-1, PSG drew 2-2 with Monaco, Galatasaray edged out Juventus 3-2 after extra time, and Atalanta defeated Borussia Dortmund 4-1.

CYCLING – Former road race world champion Mathieu van der Poel makes his road season debut at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad on Saturday, fresh from winning a record eighth cyclo-cross world title earlier this month.
