The Mandalorian and Grogu finally brings two of Star Wars' most popular characters to the big screen, and technically there's plenty to admire. The visual effects are superb, the action sequences are impressively staged and Grogu remains as irresistibly cute as ever. Seeing these characters and worlds projected on a cinema screen feels completely natural – after all, this is Star Wars, and few franchises can match its scale or spectacle.

The problem is that the film arrives at a time when many audiences are experiencing a degree of Star Wars fatigue. What once felt fresh and exciting now feels a little familiar. The story rarely surprises, following a fairly predictable path from one set piece to the next, and the script often feels content to play the hits rather than take meaningful risks.

That's not to say fans won't enjoy themselves. The mythology, characters and world-building all translate beautifully to the cinema format, and there are enough crowd-pleasing moments to keep longtime devotees happy. Pedro Pascal continues to bring quiet gravitas to the Mandalorian, while the relationship between Din and Grogu remains the emotional heart of the film.

Ultimately, The Mandalorian and Grogu feels a little like money for old rope. It's polished, entertaining and professionally made, but lacks the sense of wonder that once made Star Wars feel truly special. A solid enough adventure, but one that struggles to justify its existence beyond extending a successful brand. Three stars. Catch on the big screen before it heads to Disney + soon.
