Luc Holtz will take over the top job at Ligue 2's FC Metz from next season on, the former Luxembourg national football coach was unveiled as the new manager of the Lorraine club at a press conference on Friday.
FC Metz marks Holtz's fifth position as a manager, having formerly managed Etzella Ettelbruck, the Luxembourg Under-21s, the men's national team, and SV Waldhof Mannheim in Germany. He now joins the French club following their demotion to Ligue 2 last season.
During his 15 years in charge of Luxembourg, Holtz oversaw a significant improvement in the national team's fortunes. His tenure included a run to the Nations League play-off semi-finals in 2024, which offered Luxembourg a chance to qualify for Euro 2024 in Germany. However, those hopes ended with defeat to Georgia.
Holtz stepped down as Luxembourg coach in August 2025 and joined SV Waldhof Mannheim. During his sole season in Germany, he guided the club to 10th place in the 3. Liga and won the Baden Cup.
