Passengers travelling by tram across Kirchberg will have to make some adjustments over the coming weeks. On Wednesday evening, major works began at the intersection of Boulevards John F. Kennedy and Konrad Adenauer, with knock-on effects for tram services.

Because of the works, the tram line is being interrupted on an exceptional basis. As Françoise Frieden of Luxtram explained, the summer holidays are being used to carry out the works. Passengers now have to prepare for a few changes. There will be an interruption between the Red Bridge and the Philharmonie, Frieden said, with trams running on two separate sections in the meantime, one from Findel to Philharmonie Mudam and the other from the far side of the Stadion station to the Red Bridge.

For the 450 metres between the two stops, a walk is worth considering. A short signposted stroll would surely do no harm. For those less able to walk, or for anyone still needing to head towards Findel weighed down with luggage, alternatives are on offer.

Luxtram has ensured that passengers can still cover the route by public transport, Frieden said, either by bus or by rail via a connection at the Red Bridge.

On top of that, staff will be on site at all times to help passengers with any questions. The works have already been under way for 19 days, and for good reason.

The tram line, Frieden explained, has to be interrupted so that the first extension can be connected to the existing network. That extension runs along Boulevard Konrad Adenauer and is due to open in the autumn. Tracks have to be laid that link up to the current line, which is why services have to be paused.

Luxtram crews are working day and night on the site to ensure trams can run normally again from 10 August.

The works began on Wednesday evening at 8.30pm. For the first night, the tram line will be interrupted between the Université stop and Rout Bréck. From Thursday morning onwards, as announced, the interruption will apply between the Philharmonie and Red Bridge.
