In just over two weeks, the acclaimed US-American photojournalist Lynsey Addario will open her powerful new exhibition entitled Women in War, at the museum in Esch-sur-Alzette. The exhibition brings together more than two decades of her work, highlighting the lives and experiences of women affected by war and conflict all around the world.
Throughout the exhibition, the museum will host a diverse program of accompanying events, including workshops, guided tours, special talks, and a photography competition, in which anyone can participate. Addario will also be a guest at the museum in Esch several times after the opening, but the exact dates are yet unknown.
On 7 March at 4pm, the exhibition opening will be accompanied by a screening of the documentary film Love + War at Neumünster Abbey in Addario’s presence. The film offers an intimate portrait of the female photographer, tracing her career in the predominantly male world of war photography and exploring the personal and professional challenges she has faced on the frontlines.
Born in 1973 in Connecticut, Addario began her career in Argentina before shifting her focus to Afghanistan shortly after 9/11. She has since worked in major conflict zones including Iraq, Sudan, Syria, and Ukraine, with her work appearing in international publications such as The New York Times and National Geographic. In 2009, she was part of a team awarded the Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting, and in 2016 she received a second Pulitzer as part of The New York Times staff for their reporting on the European refugee crisis.
