Combining the City and Diekirch courts’ activity, magistrates issued 1,100 driving bans and returned 638 driving licenses. The court of appeals issued 1,290 verdicts; the court of cassation annulled 23 of these.

The newly established family law judges of both courts handled 558 cases, the courts jointly issued 1,225 divorces and 87 criminal sentences: of these, 85 people were convicted and only 8 acquitted. These acquittals were limited to the City’s courts. Collectively, the courts’ prosecutors requested 107 autopsies. There were 1,473 cases of guardianship, 622 in relation to a senior, 851 to a minor.

In the city’s court of appeals there were fewer cases on the 31st of December than the 1st of January of the previous year (1,649 compared to 1,814). The second judges took on 1,125 new cases.

The court of cassation had more cases on the 31st than the previous year (181 compared to 156). The judges who were in charge of controlling that the correct application of the law took up 182 new cases and settled 157 of these.

One last figure on the topic of finances: last year the state issued and collected nearly €475 million worth of fines!
