The car caught fire after the collision and ten people were injured. According to the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps report, two individuals are in a critical state, but the police report states that four of the victims were seriously injured.
The driver of the car crashed into the minibus from behind, the force of the collision pushing the bus into the guard rail. The bus then crashed onto its side and the car stopped several metres in front of the minibus, catching fire. The guilty driver fled the scene before the police arrived.

A police patrol later found the driver at his home, where they confirmed he was highly inebriated. The police informed the public prosecutor's office and fined the driver for driving under the influence before an ambulance took the man to the hospital.
The incident required the intervention of five ambulances, first responders from Esch-sur-Alzette and Luxembourg City, and the Niederanven, Luxembourg City, and Sandweiler fire brigades.
