Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Jean Asselborn met the group of twelve adults and two children at Findel airport on Friday morning, as they arrived in Luxembourg as part of the resettlement call launched by the European Commission in 2017.

With the help of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), all the nominated refugees from Niger have now arrived in Luxembourg.

The refugees are of Somali and Eritrean descent, while the group consists of three families and five singletons. All 14 are extremely vulnerable people who had been detained in very difficult conditions in detention centres in Libya. They were subsequently evacuated by the UN and the IOM.
