The number of cases in Luxembourg is also elevated, considering you can wait 4 years to complete the mandatory check-up after purchasing a vehicle. Recent numbers by the ministry of mobility and public works reveal that currently 17,000 cars and transporters are circulating the country without proper certification from a technical control station.
This means that 3.6% out of the 470,100 registered cars in Luxembourg can be subjugated to fines of up to 145 euros, paired with a loss of 2 points, in case the police stops them.
Due to the pandemic, the regulations for cars and transporters were temporarily eased so that drivers, whose certificates expired between March and 24 June, could still continue driving and undertake the check-up until 1 September.
Unsurprisingly, the number of cars in need of proper control has significantly increased: around 8,600 vehicles in total.
The numbers were delivered by minister Bausch as a reply to a parliamentary inquiry by LSAP deputy Mars Di Bartolomeo.
