End of the break2,500 pupils return to French Vauban school

RTL Today
Whilst pupils enrolled in Luxembourgish schools continue to make the most of their dwindling summer break, the pupils enrolled in the French Vauban school and lycée returned to the new academic year on Wednesday.

On Wednesday morning, kindergarten and students aged between 11 and 15 returned to school, followed by the older secondary school students later during the afternoon. On Thursday 5 September, primary school classes at the French-language school will begin.

The school's courtyard was filled with older students greeting their friends, young children saying goodbye to their parents, and parents being slightly impatient to leave.

The school has a total of 1,000 primary school pupils and 1,600 secondary school pupils. Of the 300 members of staff, 200 are teachers. The school experienced a huge amount of growth in 2017, when the secondary school fused with the French primary school. The same year, the school moved to a new campus in Gasperich.

The school operates under an autonomous non-profit model, both supported by the French state and subsidised by the Luxembourgish state. Parents pay tuition fees ranging between €3,000 and €3,500 per year.

Both the Vauban school and lycée have a multicultural studentship, offering an international environment for its diverse pupils and reflecting the demographic nature of Luxembourg.
