2019 saw 7,138 guided tours around the capital, 154,409 requests for tourist information, 152,223 Casemates visitors and 673 cultural events in the city. Although the number of people visiting the tourist information office in person fell by 22%, this was offset by an increase in online visitors of 25.55%.
The number of guided tours rose compared to 2018, as part of a growing trend observed since 2016. The guided tour team organised 2,590 tours in English, 1,742 tours in German, 767 tours in French and 311 tours in Luxembourgish. The Luxembourg City Tourist Office offers guided tours in 25 different languages.
The Casemates du Bock proved especially popular, with a 16.68% increase in the number of visitors compared to 2018.
However, Summer 2020 will be radically different, as the tourism sector is suffering as a result of the health crisis. Despite the current situation, Tom Bellion, director of the Luxembourg City Tourist Office, said he was optimistic that a gradual resumption of tourist activities would take place in the Luxembourg capital in the months to come.
