The national weather service ASTA is in charge of measurements and annual reports, combining data from a total of 32 stations.

The average temperature of 2020 was 10.9°C, while both September and November saw new temperature records. On 15 September, Steinsel registered 35.2°C.

The year was too dry in most places except the Moselle, although rain records were recorded in parts of the country in February. Between 22 March and 27 April there was no rain in most of the country for over a month. At all stations, July was among the 10 driest July months since 1851. In Fouhren and Hosingen it was the driest July since 1951.

Apart from elevated temperatures, droughts have been a cause for concern for the agricultural sector.

The heat wave and the summer drought affected all summer crops. The grain harvest recorded a drop in yield of - 20-30% on average, with very strong local fluctuations. While the yield of potatoes was satisfactory to good, maize suffered a lot from the drought in the region.

Despite the conditions above, Luxembourg's vineyards and orchards saw a productive year, even with the obstacles posed by the coronavirus.
