Drink-driving checks, traffic accidents, and targeted operations kept Luxembourg police busy throughout Friday night. Several drivers tested positive for alcohol, leading to immediate licence suspensions.
Police reported numerous incidents related to drink-driving between 20 and 21 February. As part of breathalyser checks ordered by the public prosecutor’s office, officers carried out stops in Fentange and at several locations in Luxembourg City. In total, 204 motorists were tested, even in the absence of any visible signs of intoxication. Seven tests came back positive, resulting in four penalty notices and three on-the-spot fines. Two driving licences were confiscated immediately, and five irregularities concerning vehicle documents were also recorded.
In addition to these targeted checks, several intoxicated drivers were reported by members of the public. In Grevenmacher, a visibly drunk motorist was stopped after leaving a bar and swerving along the road, nearly causing an accident. The breathalyser test proved positive, and the driver was issued with a temporary driving ban.
Another case was reported in the evening in Redange, where a clearly intoxicated couple were about to get back behind the wheel. Once again, the driver tested positive and had their driving rights temporarily suspended.
During the night, a traffic accident occurred in Luxembourg City at the junction of Avenue du Dix Septembre and Boulevard Pierre Dupong. While no one was injured, both vehicles involved had to be towed away. One of the drivers tested positive for alcohol, leading to the immediate seizure of their licence.
Shortly afterwards, another heavily intoxicated motorist was stopped after attempting to drive off upon spotting the police. The individual was unable to produce a licence or the vehicle’s documents, and tested positive for alcohol. The vehicle was subsequently impounded.
