Police performed alcohol tests in Luxembourg City between 8.45pm and 1.15am on Thursday night. They were stationed on rue de Beggen, rue de Hollerich and boulevard Patton.
A total of 226 drivers were breathalyzed, 15 of which tested positive. 4 drivers had to hand in their driving license.
Several more drunk drivers were picked up around the country.
Police seized three further driving licenses from motorists whose erratic driving attracted attention.
One driver was involved in an accident shortly before 9pm and insisted himself that the police be called. But after their arrival, his breathalyzer test revealed he was well over the limit. He became obstreperous and wanted to continue his journey. Because he would not calm down, the officials took him in custody to avoid danger to himself or others.
Shortly after midnight, a female driver on route d'Arlon drew attention with her driving style. After overtaking several cars and driving at high speed, she was stopped by a police patrol. Despite her protests, her alcohol test was positive and she had to hand in her driving license.
Two further drivers were cited for drunk driving during the night, one in Luxembourg City and one on the N7 near Brandenbourg. Because they were under the limit of 1.2 ‰, they could keep their license.
