In the previous school year, the number was slightly higher at 321 expulsions, which were imposed by disciplinary committees in Luxembourg’s secondary schools. In 2022/23, the figure was lower, at 251 cases.
The main reasons for expulsion were repeated and unjustified absences, acts of violence and serious insults.
Since 2022, a total of 77 appeals have been lodged against expulsion decisions taken by disciplinary committees. In 23 cases, the expulsion was overturned, most often because it was considered disproportionate or due to insufficiently clear evidence.
