Shortly before 1am on Sunday morning, a driver collided with the pedestrian while trying to overtake a lorry on the A6.
The man was thrown off the road and died at the scene. The driver remained uninjured, although her car was seriously damaged.
The police has begun an investigation into the accident. The motorway was closed to traffic in both directions while emergency services carried out their procedures.
