Deadly Sanem blaze46-year-old man dies in house fire

Firefighters were called to the scene around 2.15 am, bringing the fire under control by 3.30 am.

During the night from Friday to Saturday a Portuguese man died in a fire in his home in Sanem.

The building, with a restaurant-bar on the ground floor, is located on Route d'Esch in Sanem.

The flames had already spread to the first floor when firefighters arrived at the scene.

Firefighters managed to get the blaze under control by around 3.30am.

Equipped with respiratory protection, a team entered the building to search for residents. They discovered that a man had perished in his apartment on the first floor.

One further individual survived and was taken to hospital for medical checks.

Two ambulances, an emergency doctor, the police and a psychological support group were at the scene along with an alderman of the municipality of Sanem.

The roads surrounding the building were closed to traffic until 7 am.
