
This year alone already saw 100 attacks against members of humanitarian organisations, resulting in 203 victims in 18 different countries. 74 people lost their lives in 2020, compared to 57 during the same period last year.
CARE Luxembourg, Caritas, the Red Cross, Handicap International, and Médecins Sans Frontières stressed the importance of international humanitarian rights in a joint statement. These five organisations are active all over the globe and respect the principles of neutrality, impartiality, and independence while helping the victims of humanitarian disasters.
The World Humanitarian Day on 19 August is a call to help those in crisis situations, but also to think about the people who are actively involved and often putting their own lives on the line in order to help others.
