On the roads8 out of 123 motorists found to be under the influence during police checks

Police carried out a number of checks on motorists overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday.

From 8pm to 12.30am, police patrols were set up in Hesperange on Rue de Gasperich, and on Plac  François-Joseph Dargent and Route de Longwy in Luxembourg City.

123 motorists were stopped for a breathalyser test, 8 of whom tested positive. Four people were warned and four were fined, while no licences were confiscated on this occasion.

Meanwhile, police were alerted to a motorist on the N7 who was found to be driving erratically. Officers caught up with him in Wahlhausen, where it was confirmed he was over the limit. His licence was withdrawn on the spot.

Drug consumption and driving ban

Police came across two people acting suspiciously in a car parked in a delivery area near Luxembourg City train station at 5.40pm on Wednesday. Both driver and passenger were found to be consuming drugs. It then transpired the driver was violating a driving ban, which resulted in a fine and the seizure of the vehicle.

Accidents

A Belgian motorcyclist took a tumble on the CR110 towards Kleinbettingen. He was treated on the spot and later brought to hospital.

Around 10.45pm on Wednesday, a motorist on the CR105 lost control of his vehicle as he attempted to swerve an animal on the road. Despite the car striking three trees in the process, the driver was able to climb out the vehicle himself and was taken to hospital for a check up.
