Meisch said around 80% of primary school pupils and 20% of secondary school pupils would be able to benefit from free school meals, according to the current plan.
The Minister of Education announced these estimations in a meeting with the parliamentary commission on Wednesday. The plan would apply two different calculation methods to determine eligibility.
According to Meisch, the plan will be implemented as soon as possible, with the ministry working towards a deadline of 1 January. The government has put aside a budget of 20 million euros to make it possible.
