We have been saying it for a few days now, but the cold front is now here.
Temperatures are set to tumble for the foreseeable future.
Dropping to around -5 ° C this Tuesday, down to -7 ° C Wednesday or even -9 ° C Thursday! And it is thought that the cold will persist at until at least this weekend.
The northern half of the country is already on yellow alert for "severe cold warning" this morning: temperatures could be around -6 to -8 ° C.
As our evening editor pointed out yesterday, the south of the country is expected to be colder than northern climes, yet no warning has yet been issued.
The cold will be accompanied by rather dry weather, with clear skies and relatively little wind.
Light snowfall could however appear in places Tuesday morning and Wednesday.
Be careful, however, when traveling, the ACL warns that ice may form on certain roads in higher and lower lying regions.
