The report by the Environmental Observatory conveys as much. The institution has conducted an in-depth analysis of natural habitats, of both animals and plants, in Luxembourg between 2013 and 2018, which confirms the rising concern.

Only a third of all natural habitats are considered to be in a favourable state; out of the domestic animal species, three quarters are considered to be endangered. Especially open landslides and areas in proximity of water have experienced significant declines in wildlife activities.

When it comes to bird species, a quarter are labelled as endangered, such as partridges, little owls, or whinchats.

According to the report, the main causes for the decline of biodiversity are the intense levels of agriculture, which use elevated amounts of pesticides. Urbanisation and climate change are further listed as important factors to be considered.
