Housing and mobility should not be planned in isolation, the Association of Luxembourg Student Circles (ACEL) said on Monday, citing the results of a student survey ran by the association.
Affordable housing close to the university campus cuts down on daily commutes, they explained, while good public transport links can also make it easier to reach housing further afield.
More than half of respondents said they had run into difficulties when trying to secure student housing through the university. The problems cited ranged from waiting times of up to six months to outright application rejections, and communication described as either unclear or too slow.
ACEL demands that new housing be built over the next four years, in order to tackle the structural shortage of affordable student accommodation.
The way university housing is allocated should also be transparent and fair, ACEL argues, and any rejection should be clearly justified and communicated to the applicant.
