United for Climate JusticeActivists raise awareness for climate crisis during the pandemic

The "Youth for Climate" movement took advantage of the State of the Nation speech to remind political leaders of its demands.

In front of the Cercle Cité, Place d'Armes was decorated with posters highlighting the state of climate emergency. The aim of the "United for Climate Justice" coalition was to call on MPs and government members not to forget the climate crisis during the health crisis.

Anyone wishing to use the main entrance to enter the Cercle had to pass under a sign with the slogan "Climate Neutrality 2030. I am committed". Most of the politicians played along and briefly chatted with representatives of "Youth for Climate" and other environmental NGOs. Others used the side door. Among them was the Prime Minister, Xavier Bettel, who seemed to be in a great hurry when he arrived.

Natasha Lepage from "Youth for Climate" stated that Bettel "simply walked over the various posters". This, Lepage explained, showed the climate activists that he does not see the climate crisis as a crisis, even though it clearly should be considered as one.
