The new site in Gilsdorf ranges over three and a half hectares and holds a school building with 56 class rooms, 18 workshops, a machine hall, a gym, a cafeteria, as well as a library.
The location of the project was first decided in 2007, however, it took until 2016 before the first construction workers finally entered the site. School director Tom Delles commented on the lengthy process, acknowledging some of the upsides: "Over the course of the years, we were still able to make many adjustments along the way, allowing us to add additional rooms that were not in the initial plans."
At the same time, some ideas from the first plans were scratched over the years, such as the integrated boarding school, for instance. Director Delles believes that there is a demand however, and thus hopes that another solution can be found to solve the problem of having pupils from all across the Grand Duchy commute to the same location.
Equipment is currently being moved from the old site in Ettelbruck. Another lengthy process, as many of the tools include heavy machinery. The greenhouses in Gilsdorf are also not ready yet, but expected to be completed over the course of the next year. Until then, the old infrastructure in Ettelbruck will be used.
When it comes to public transport, the new site still lacks adequate connection, a problem which also needs solving. There is no cycling path to the site, and while the school will have around 200 employees, there are only half as many parking spots available.
