Luxembourg's air ambulance was called out to Irsch in Germany on Thursday afternoon, after a gas explosion at a caravan caused a fire not far from a sports ground.

A 58 year old man was severely injured in the incident, and was taken to a specialised hospital in Ludwigshafen by helicopter. 10 children were evacuated from the sports ground nearby, where they had been training prior to the fire.

Other accidents on Thursday

Two cars collided shortly before 7pm in Crendal, with one person injured. The Wincrange and Clervaux emergency services attended the scene.

A motorist was injured in Trintange on Route de Remich at 2.45pm after a crash, while in Bech-Kleinmacher, a motorcyclist fell in Rue Nico Klopp at 4.45pm and suffered injuries.

Finally, a roof caught fire in Potaaschbierg, at around 3pm in Rue de Flaxweiler.
