On Thursday, LCGB issued a press release regarding work conditions, cases of mistreatment, as well as social dumping at the transportation firm. The statement came out in light of a recent investigative article by RTBF.
The Belgian union CSC Transcom accuses Jost of applying for short-term employment, while simultaneously chartering weekly flights between Bukarest and Maastricht to bring in cheaper Romanian labour of up to 180 workers. They would then stay inside a hangar near Herstal under inhumane conditions, with three showers and two toilets for 100 drivers in total. It is moreover alleged that the Romanian workers have been threatened and insulted by their employers.
According to LCGB, the union has had an eye on Jost for a considerable amount of time, noting that the applications for partial unemployment do not reflect the officially declared workload and could indicate a possible case of tax abuse. The union further emphasises that the national inspection should be careful to avoid a similar situation like the one in Belgium occurring in the Grand Duchy.
Meanwhile, CSC Transcom has taken Jost to court, while the transportation firm denies any wrongdoing and claims a case of defamation.
