Minister of SportAthletes, coaches and volunteers will be entitled to sports leave

Dan Kersch, the Minister of Sport, announced a reform of the sports leave here in Luxembourg. In the future, elite sportsmen and women, among others, who take part in a European competition, but also their companions, will be able to benefit from sports leave.

Volunteers working in clubs will also be able to apply for sports leave, as well as people who are training at ENEPS, the National School for Physical Education and Sport.

The minister said that sport had generated 683 million euros in 2020. This corresponds to 1.1% of GDP. Sport provides work for almost 4,400 people in Luxembourg.

Dan Kersch also announced that the Sports Museum will be located in Esch-sur-Alzette.
Lastly, an agreement was reached between the ministry and the municipality of Mondorf concerning the future velodrome, which will be owned by the State. The cost of the infrastructure is estimated at 55 million euros.
