This type of fox is not native to western Europe and is more likely to be found in some eastern European countries as well as on breeding farms where the animals are bred for their fur.
The Nature and Forest Agency assumes that the fox has been raised in captivity. However, it remains unclear whether the animal has been set free or escaped on its own.
The Agency points out that it is prohibited by law in Luxembourg to both keep a wild animal in captivity and/or to release it into the wild.
In the context of this incident, the Agency is looking for witnesses who know where the silver fox came from. Any potentially pertinent information can be sent to the Agency via e-mail to infractions@anf.etat.lu
People are cautioned not to touch or feed the animal under any circumstance.
