Since 2000, the Rabbinic Seminary at the Abraham Geiger College has awarded the prize to people for their contributions and outstanding service to Judaism and its diversity.
The ceremony will be conducted by Portuguese president Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
Reacting to the news, Hollerich said: “In our pluralistic society, future clergymen need to meet with other religions. Our collective task is to become friends, to learn from each other and to stay true to ourselves.”
Former recipients of the prize in recent years include Germany’s former chancellor Angela Merkel and Cardinal Karl Lehmann.
