The corona crisis caused the catering industry to register major losses. With the usual big ticket events like business conventions, weddings, or first communions no longer taking place, or existing only in smaller formats, paired with the growing tendency for employees to work outside of the actual office building, many catering businesses are fighting for their existence.
The biggest issue appears to be the uncertainty and fear of customers. Once more reducing private assemblages of people to a maximum of ten people can also be considered a setback for the industry.
Some businesses expect to be working at around 150 events this year. The federation of the sector is already working in cooperation with the ministry to create a safe and structured process for events in the future. Time is running out nonetheless.
How events can be organised in the future remains to be seen. Until then, businesses have already begun focusing on 2022 out of precaution.
