Although the CCDH is not opposed to compulsory vaccination in principle, the conditions for a calm debate are not present, Pregno criticises. On such a delicate issue, which involves interference in human rights, the country needs to give itself the necessary time and not succumb to “doing politics for politics’ sake”, the CCDH president explains in his letter to the Minister.
A vaccine mandate would also come “too late”. At a time when the risk of being hospitalised because of Covid-19 is reduced with the Omicron variant, the CCDH fears that compulsory vaccination will not find the necessary support and will be difficult to justify.
In addition, the CCDH asks that, if the government still opts for a vaccine mandate, it should be made clear what the authorities want to achieve with compulsory vaccination, while at the same time improving the communication strategy of official awareness campaigns.
