According to CFL, a record number of passengers used trains to travel around Luxembourg or across the borders in 2025. The rail operator reported a 0.57% increase compared to their previous record established in 2024.
The majority of passengers, like in previous years, used the route “Luxembourg - Rodange - Esch-sur-Alzette”. The next most popular routes were “Luxembourg - Ettelbruck - Troisvierges - Gouvy” and “Luxembourg - Thionville - Metz”.
CFL attributed the high passenger numbers to their multi-annual investment programmes, further expecting to increase the number of seats by 46% through the gradual commissioning of 34 “Coradia Stream High Capacity” trains.
Ongoing work on the rail network will guarantee its readiness to achieve new passenger records. For the last few years, several multimodal interchanges have been in work to help relieve congestion on the busiest parts of the network.
