After Hamm fireCGDIS director says no reproach for fire fighters

On Thursday 25 July a fire consumed a field in Hamm, burning a fire engine in the process.

According to Saturday's edition of the Wort, the fire engine ignited the grass through its own heat.

The vehicle, one of the first on the scene, entered a safe part of the field with the intent of extinguishing the existing fire.

The general director of the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps, Paul Schroeder, said he could not reproach the teams in question, pointing out that they had acted quickly to control a stressful situation.

The decision was made on the spot with unfortunate consequences.

The incident will be analysed in detail going forward.
