Following reports of sounds coming from inside the old mine on Sunday, authorities ordered a search to ensure there was no one in difficulty inside the tunnels. Police and other emergency services joined to coordinate the search, which included a team of sniffer dogs, as well as a specialised intervention group.

Three teams searched the tunnels for an hour, despite difficulty establishing radio connection with other parties involved. No one was discovered in distress or otherwise inside the mine.

The mayor of Schifflange joined the operation, alongside forest rangers.

Although it appeared as though no one had indeed entered the mine, the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps has issued a reminder on social media to warn the public against entering abandoned structures such as mines, casemates or caves without authorisation and the required equipment. Doing so could pose an unnecessary danger to life.
